The Earth Core

Part one

1a)Crust- is its top layer, with a thickness of 5km (3mi) to 10km (6mi) for the oceanic crust, and 30km (20mi) to 50km (30mi) for the continental crust.

b)Lower/Upper Mantle- Is a ~ 2900km(1800mi) thick shell of compressed seal and heated rock, beginning below the earth’s crust (lithosphere).

c)Outer Core- extends to a depth of around 3000 miles beneath the surface. It is believed that this outer core is made up of super heated liquid molten lava.

d)Solid Inner Core- the Inner Core extends another 900 miles inward towards the centre of the earth. It is believed that this Inner Core is a solid ball of mostly Iron and Nickel.

2)

Earth's Core

3)I think the Inner Core has the hottest temperature because it’s at the very bottom of the earth where lava comes from.

4)The crust is more dens because the molecules are moving slower and the Inner Core is less dens because the molecules move a lot faster there.

Part two

1) 400+870=4270Celsius
2) 9000celsius+870=8130
3a) I think the values in the depth column are negative because the go really deep in the ground.
b. 7200celsius-870celsius=6330celsius
c. (-6401)-(-90)=(-6311)
d. The answer in #1 (4270) is close to the temperature of the outer core (4300) because I can see the answer in #1 and the number on the table which are really close.
e. The answer in #2 (8130) is close to the depth of the Inner Core (6401) because I can see the answer in #1 and the number on the table which are really close.

Part three

1. Some of the causes for earthquakes are when tension is released from rocks in the earth’s crust and upper mantle or when volcanoes gash somewhere.

2. Some locations that earthquakes occurred at are: Japan, New Zealand, and Italy.

3. There cannot be an earthquake in Winnipeg because the earth is divided into plates and Winnipeg is exactly in the middle of a plate and earthquakes happen where two plates connect.

4. Earthquake in Chile
When->May, 22, 1960
Magnitude-> 9.5
Damage-> A city of 200,000 numerous buildings collapsed, a total of 190,000 houses were destroyed,2,000,000 Estimates of fatalities ranged between 490 to 57,002 with no destination as to how many deaths were caused by the earthquake. AfterShock-> The after shock happened after 10 to 15 minutes and it was a 25 meter tsunami.
